Freedom for Thee, But Not for Me
It amazes me how hypocritical people are when they talk about their religion, or political ideologies. I'll take on their religious views another time. Right now, I think it's more important, especially for the trans community, to take a look at the hypocrisy of the political Right.
The Right tout how important it is to them to be free to live their lives as they see fit, as long as it causes no harm to another. However, they fought like hell to block same-sex couples from marrying, and now they're using every resource at their disposal to rob the trans community of their constitutional right to pursue happiness. We're causing no harm to others in this pursuit! They will probably say that we're harming society as a whole, but is it really the job of the federal government to shape and direct society? According to the Constitution of the United States of America, the federal government's job is to protect our rights and freedoms, defend the sovereignty of our country, including our national security (which also includes a strong border), and ensure "domestic tranquility".
Re-read the previous paragraph: I bet I just upset Republican and Democrat voters alike with that one. Those who vote Right vote their religious convictions, but we don't live in a theocracy. Left voters turn a blind eye to those who enter our country illegally and are okay with open borders, but they also want the government to keep us safe. News flash: You can't have open borders and a secure nation.
Now, me... I'm a Right-LEANING Libertarian. I want the borders closed and secured, and I want the government to stay the hell out of my personal and private life. If, at the age of sixty-two, I want to start taking testosterone blockers, estrogen and progesterone, and grow natural breasts, that's my business; not that of the federal government. If I want to change my gender markers, that's a choice I should make. Again, not the government.
Republican voters and politicians alike want to protect children from the "trans agenda". Trust me, I get it! Being the survivor of childhood rape, I, too, want to protect children. I don't agree with puberty blockers, and I don't agree with hormone replacement therapy for minors. I believe those options should be withheld until their minds are fully developed. However, I'm open to providing children with plenty of guidance and counseling, so that when they've reached adulthood, they'll be fully equipped with enough information and knowledge to make the best decision for themselves... as ADULTS. They should not, however, be subjected to a bunch of religious zealots telling them that they'll burn in Hell for daring to be themselves.
Personally, I believe in the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I pray often! What I don't believe in is the Bible. A collection of texts, written by men, inspired by their ideal of God, full of human biases... and you expect me to believe that came from Him? Get real! Look... even though I believe in God, I recently started on my own journey of transition. Why? Well... that's actually my personal business, and not one damn bit of yours. But I'll tell you, I don't believe I'm going to Hell for it. Not any more than I believe I'm going to Hell because of my sexuality.
The thing is, you all don't like us, and you fully intend to force us to live by your standards. In other words, you're not allowing us the freedom you insist upon for yourselves. For the intellectually challenged among you, that's called hypocrisy. Freedom for thee, but not for me. Right? And you dare say that you're not tyrants? Despots? Fascists? Both parties are working to control the people and tell us what we can and cannot do. Fuck the politicians! Power to the People: Gay... straight... bisexual... trans... WHAT THE FUCK EVER!
I read a headline a few days ago that Trump said if re-elected, he'll ban gender affirming care FOR EVERYONE. How is he not a fascist? Any Republicans got an answer for me?
