Real Legislation?
In recent decades, presidents have pushed supposed laws on the people. Whether Republican or Democrat, they've all signed Executive Orders to impose what they wanted to be the law of the land. The only problem with that is that Executive Orders were only supposed to be used to create emergency, temporary laws while Congress is in recess; like funding disaster relief, ordering military action necessary at the moment etc... Why Congress hasn't challenged the over-use of EOs in the Supreme Court is beyond me. Someone needs to challenge this trend and make it stop!
Recently, it's gone around online that Trump has vowed to impose a ban on gender affirming care for adults and minors. Personally, I agree with the ideology that minors should not be transitioned and believe that should be a law. (More on this later) But, I don't believe it should be imposed by Executive Order any more than a Democrat imposing gun laws in this manner. It's legally and ethically wrong! For an idea to become law, it first needs to be introduced into Congress in the form of a Bill. That Bill needs to pass successfully through BOTH houses of Congress, and THEN get the president's signature. Then, and only then, is it an actual law. You cannot ban bump stocks or gender affirming care via EO without having committed an act of tyranny. The letter of the law should always be followed, especially when CREATING laws; unless a law is unjust, in which case it's tyranny. In that instance, disobedience becomes not only necessary, but the absolute duty of citizens.
If Trump bans gender affirming care, it is the duty of citizens in transition to continue their journey, and it is the duty of care givers and insurers to continue to support their efforts with their services. Anything less is un-American servitude. Personally, if Trump imposes this ban, I intend to create an online petition for the Supreme Court to address it immediately and without hesitation. It's said that the wheels of justice often turn slowly, but, in the face of tyranny, they should not only turn quickly, but leave rubber on the ground at the start. It should be IMMEDIATE!
Now to address my belief that minors should not be transitioned:
The mind of a person is not completely formed until they have reached their late teens, early twenties. To allow them to choose whether or not they will transition may not be abuse, but it is most assuredly neglect. However, to make such a choice in their stead is an abuse of your authority in their lives. I have personally read several accounts of individuals (now adults) who transitioned too early, only to come to regret it in their twenties. This could have been avoided with basic commonsense.
How I think this should be handled is that minors should not be given "puberty blockers", and they should receive neither top nor bottom surgery. They should, however, get regular counseling from certified and impartial professionals. This counseling should be low-cost, or free, with consideration to circumstances. Doctor-patient privilege should be honored, aside from sharing basic information with parents/guardians. Unless, of course, the Doctor ascertains that the minor may cause harm to themselves, or others. In this case, they are expected to report the potential. When the time arrives that the individual is no longer a minor, they may then choose freely whether or not to move forward with gender affirming care. At no time, however, should a minor be denied the freedom to pursue minor gender affirmative counseling. After all, that counseling may very well determine the child's future happiness. Therefore, denying them the ability to receive such counseling would in fact be a violation of their right to pursue happiness. After achieving adulthood, they should then be directed to the resources and assistances to enable them to further continue their pursuit.
I don't think any of this is too much to ask. Although, I'm sure there are many who think it is too much. Most of these people will do everything they can to block gender affirming care for all, and they are so blindly one-sided they won't realize that this is the fascism they claim to be opposed to. In their minds, it's only fascism if it targets them. But, it's not fascism to target those who they see as the enemy. Freedom dictates "Liberty and Justice for All", not "Liberty and Justice for those who agree with me". In the words of the late, great Thomas Jefferson, "I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery." Does the reader truly understand the dictates of Freedom?
