Talking Gender Dysphoria

What is gender dysphoria?

Gender dysphoria is a psychological condition in which a person experiences significant distress or discomfort because their gender identity doesn't align with their sex assigned at birth.  The feeling can often be intense and can affect many aspects of a person's life.  It often involves wanting to live as a person of the opposite sex than that to which one was born, which might involve changing ones body, name, or pronouns to better suit ones gender identity.

At what age does gender dysphoria start?

Gender dysphoria can start as young as 4 years of age.  Most known cases have been recorded to have begun between the ages of  4 and 7, although it's possible for symptoms not to appear until puberty, or even later in life.  Remember, each individual's experience is unique and there's no definite age for gender dysphoria to begin.

Is gender dysphoria treatable, and how is it treated?

Of course, gender dysphoria is treatable.  It's commonly treated with psycho-therapy and/or transitioning.  To anyone buying into the far Right BS... YES!  Transitioning is an accepted form of treatment for gender dysphoria.

But is gender dysphoria curable?

The short answer would be NO.  There have actually been a few cases in which people have said that they were cured, but unless you're intellectually dishonest, you know there has to be proof before you can accept something as true.  Remember the #MeToo movement?  They said, "Believe all women."  And you said, "that's bullshit."  I get it!  I was right there with you!  Without proof, you cannot rightfully accept a thing as true.  To do otherwise would be moronic.  Wouldn't it!?!  And to all of you far-Right knuckle draggers (trust me, the exact opposition drags their knuckles, too), killing us to "cure" us would not be a cure.  It would be murder at the very least.  It would more likely be called genocide.  Hmm... or possibly, gendercide?  (I like it!)

I heard that people regret transitioning!

I'm forced to actually agree with you!  But, it's less than 1% of people who have gender affirming surgeries who regret what they have done.  When you consider other types of body changing surgeries, you find that over 14% regret their choices.  But, supposedly we're the ones with a problem?  Mmmm... I don't think so!

What if a person doesn't get treatment for their gender dysphoria?

Untreated gender dysphoria can lead to a range of serious emotional and psychological consequences, including:

  • Mental health issues:  Depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health challenges.
  • Self harm and suicidality:  People with gender dysphoria who don't receive gender-affirming treatment are at higher risk of self harm and suicide.  Of course, there are probably psychotic far Right wingers who would probably like to see us off ourselves, but we're a lot less likely to do so when we transition.
  • Relationship difficulties:  Gender dysphoria can lead to interpersonal conflicts and rejection from society.  Again, someone out there is thinking stupid thoughts.  I bet they're thinking, "you get rejected by society when you transition."  It's true that 57% of Americans polled believe there is a great deal of hatred for the transgender community.  So, why do it?  Well... personally, for me, in all of society, there's only one person I can't have hating me.  ME!

Conclusion:

To sum it up, trans people just want to live our lives, and we want the freedom to live our lives as we see fit!  Does that sound familiar to all of you Right wingers?  After all, that's the very same claim you make.  It just seems to me to be a bit hypocritical of you to want to refuse us of that right.  You basically want freedom for yourself, but not for those who see things differently.  Right?  I'm not sure how you see yourselves as being any different from your counterparts on the far Left.  I'll just sit here being pleased with my growing breasts while you try and figure that out.
