A Recent Facebook Post
I published a post on my two Facebook accounts this morning that I've been wanting to create for a while. While the post didn't serve to come out as transgender, it did let people know that I don't listen to the haters, and that they shouldn't, either. Following is the body of that post:
Did you know...?
The terms “mental illness” and “psychological condition” are often used interchangeably, but that is (to say the least) dishonest because they actually have their own distinct meanings.
Mental illness refers to a diagnosable disorder that significantly affects a person's thinking, feeling, mood, or behavior. It is recognized and classified in medical manuals such as the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Examples of such are depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Mental illnesses often require professional treatment, which can include therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, and support from mental health professionals.
Psychological condition is a broader term that can refer to any mental or emotional state, including both diagnosable disorders and other non-disordered mental states. It encompasses a wide range of mental health experiences, from normal emotional reactions to life events to more severe disorders. Stress, grief, adjustment issues, and situational anxiety can be considered psychological conditions, as well as diagnosable mental illnesses. Psychological conditions may or may not require professional treatment. Some conditions can be managed with self-care, support from friends and family, and coping strategies, while others may need more intensive intervention.
All mental illnesses are psychological conditions, but not all psychological conditions are classified as mental illnesses. Mental illnesses are specific diagnosable disorders that often require professional treatment, while psychological conditions encompass a wider range of mental and emotional states.
According to the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), gender dysphoria (GD) is merely a psychological disorder, but NOT a mental illness. Neither is transgenderism (TG) considered as a mental illness.
I'm telling you all of this leading to my next statement: Talking heads such as Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck are VERY intelligent men, so they should know how GD and TG are classified. If they don't, they're guilty of intellectual laziness. If they do, but tell the public otherwise, they're being dishonest and only either stating personal opinions, or (worse) telling their followers what they want to hear in order to keep their prestige and, thereby, their income. Either way, it's corruption because they're adding to the division in this country, just as sure as Obama, Biden, the Clinton's and Harris. They used to be the voices in my head, until I shut them out and started thinking for myself. It's part of my Libertarian coming of age.
