Rhetorically Right
There's a problem on the political Right that I've seen building for several years now. You, on the Left, hold on. I saw it on your side decades ago, which is why I'll never vote Democrat (or farther Left). Both sides, Left and Right... both parties, Democrat and Republican... are undermining the Constitution of the United States of America. If you care at all about your freedoms, your rights and your liberties, you'll abandon those parties immediately!
But, this blog is about trans issues, not politics. Right? Well... the problem here is that the GOP and their voter base have made every issue that trans folks face a political football. As I write this, President Trump is holding America hostage with his "Big Beautiful Bill" fiasco, all so that he can strip the trans community of our basic constitutional rights. Then he tops it off saying it's the Democrats fault. The hell of it is... IT KIND OF IS! I mean... if the DNC had let Trump run for their party's ticket when he was still a registered Democrat, he'd be embracing the trans community and destroying someone else's... rights... freedoms... liberties... PEACE OF MIND!
Here's a heads up for you Republicans ready to bend a knee and bow to Trump: He's an authoritarian! Democrats, before you cheer, consider this... Obama was an authoritarian, too. There's not a hell of a lot of difference between them and Xi Jinping, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Josef Stalin, to be honest. The current tyrant in China has a social credit system designed to brow-beat the people into living the way the government decides, if you want a decent life. I wouldn't be surprised if you risk grave consequences if your score drops too low. Historically, authoritarians have famously executed dissidents.
So many on the Right are giddy over the notion of Trump ordering the removal of trans' rights to keep and bear arms. It's said that those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. So... Refresh my memory, if you can. What have all tyrants done after stripping marginalized communities of their means to protect themselves, singly or collectively? If you don't know; he has them hunted down and imprisoned and/or killed.
Republican voters probably don't believe that Trump would do that. If that's you, I invite you to look deeper. He would do it, and many of you would applaud him for it. Imagine this, if you will: Trump signs an Executive Order stating that all transgender Americans are hereby required to turn over their firearms to local law enforcement. If a few refused to do so, they'd be hunted down, wouldn't they? But, what if every gun owning transgender person in America refused? And what if those who don't like guns said "fuck this" and got ahold of a gun, or two? More than likely, he'd order them killed.
Once more, Democrats... Obama might have done as much if he'd been able to get rid of the Second Amendment, and met with absolute refusal by Republican gun owners. I was a Republican back then, and I'm a gun owner. I would most definitely have refused then, and I will most definitely refuse any such order from our current president. Or any president in my lifetime.
I'm an American. I'm trans, and I'm free. My gender is not up for debate. My liberty cannot be legislated away. I am equal, and I am enough!
